All About Prefold Cloth Diapers
Prefold Diapers:
Prefolds are a great inexpensive choice for cloth diapering. They are made of varying layers of soft, absorbent cotton that has been sewn into thirds, with the middle third containing the most layers of cotton. Because they are exclusively cotton, Prefold diapers DO need a separate diaper cover to be waterproof.Prefolds are strong and made to last. They even hold up to the industrial washings of Cloth Diaper Services. They tend to wear out slowly making them a great cloth diaper to use for multiple children. Also because they are virtually indistructable, washing and caring for prefolds is a breeze.
Prefolds really are not that hard to use. They can be folded and fastened with a Snappi (a Dad invented fastener that replaces the need for safety pins) or for the adventurous, pinned with diaper pins. It takes a little bit of practice to efficiently fasten a prefold on your baby, but once you have it down, you will be able to change a prefold almost as fast as a disposable diaper. Don't feel like folding and fastening? You can also fold the prefold into thirds, lay it into a snug fitting wrap diaper cover, such as a Thirsties Diaper Cover, and fasten the cover around your baby. Quick, Easy, Done!
Not only are prefolds inexpensive, but they are versatile. Besides being used exclusively as a cloth diaper, prefolds make great stuffers for pocket diapers. They are also great to use as burp cloths and changing pads. Best of all, when your baby no longer needs them, prefold diapers make great cleaning and dusting cloths.
