All About Fitted Diapers
Fitted Diapers:
Fitted Diapers are yet another great option for cloth diapering. Fitted diapers, like prefolds, are made a various layers of absorbent fabric. Some popular choices are cotton, Bamboo, and Hemp. Fitted Diapers are superior to Prefolds in that they have elastic around the legs and usually at the waist which helps contain messes. This makes Fitted Cloth Diapers a superb choice for newborns and breast-fed infants.Fitted Diapers are a bit more expensive than prefolds, but they take the learning curve out of folding and fastening. Most fitted cloth diapers have either snaps or aplix (hook & loop) fasteners, which make diaper changes a breeze. However, fitted cloth diapers DO still require a diaper cover which is an extra step in the process.
The biggest drawback of fitted diapers is that the absorbent layers are sewn inside the diaper making thorough cleaning sometimes a little difficult. In addition, drying time will be increased depending on how many layers and what materials are sewn inside the fitted diapers. To help with this problem, some diaper manufacturers, like Happy Heiny, are now making fitted pocket diapers. These are made like a fitted with two layers of absorbent fabric, but there is an opening left at the back for you to stuff with the insert of your choice. This allows you to control the absorbency of the fitted diaper, as well as, allowing it to dry quickly.
