How many should I buy?

Ah, the infamous question.  We can give you a general starting point, but please bear in mind that babies have varying diapering requirements, i.e. some babies wet frequently, some have poo frequently, some are heavy nighttime wetters, some wake up in the morning almost dry.  How often you laundry your diapers also dictates somewhat how many you need to purchase.  If you don't mind washing every day, you can get by with few diapers, but the fewer you have and the more often you wash each diaper, the more wear your diapers will go through.  The following table reflects doing laundry every other day.  Sometimes I don't get diapers washed every other day, but when diapers get pushed to the third day, they can take an extra rinse. So, I recommend washing every other day if you can.

  As long as messes don't get on the diaper cover/diaper wrap, covers used with prefold diapers and fitted diapers can be used several times before needing to be thrown into the wash.  Fitted diapers contain messes better than prefolds so few covers are needed when using fitted diapers versus prefold diapers.  When using a wrap style diaper cover with prefolds, it is not necessary to use a fastener.  If you want to use a pull on cover, it is recommended that you use a Snappi or pins to secure the prefold.
